Physical Education Mission Statement
District Physical Education Vision Statement
- The percentage of young people who are overweight has more than tripled since 1980. Among children and teens aged 6 to 19 years, 16 percent (over 9 million young people) are overweight.
- Children and adolescents who are overweight by the age of 8 are 80 percent more likely to become overweight or obese adults.
- More than a third of young people in grades 9 to 12 do not regularly engage in vigorous physical activity.
- The percentage of students who attended a daily physical education class has dropped from 42% in 1991 to 28% in 2003.

Given the crisis defined in the above statements the following defines our vision of a quality physical education program:
Our students will:
§ Participate in quality physical education and physical activity for at the least 225 minutes per week (national recommendation NASPE)
§ Understand the benefits of moderate to vigorous physical activity through sport and Physical Education.
§ Understand enhanced brain function, energy levels, self-esteem, and behaviors have been attributed to physical activity and to improved academic performance.
§ Create a individual wellness plan based a comprehensive school health and physical education program
Our teachers will:
§ Create quality lessons in Health and physical education based on state and national standards
§ Create lessons dedicated to promote lifelong wellness
§ Will be trained through quality professional development and best practices in delivering the standard based curriculum.
§ Understand the connection between the components of comprehensive school health education and comprehensive physical education and how they lead to a healthy and balanced life.
Our Administrators will:
§ Continue to support our teachers in providing professional development on research based curriculum and instruction.
§ Be dedicated to creating, implementing, and evaluating programs that promote lifelong wellness.
§ Create schedules that recognize the importance of daily physical activity for students
§ Promote the importance of a comprehensive school health and physical education program
Our Vision is to improve student wellness through professional practice and standard based instruction. We envision all students are physically educated and understand the importance of physical activity.
